Ink is our annual event dedicated to alternative and independent publishing, taking place during the “Printemps de l’Art Contemporain” (The Springtime of Contemporary Art).
Gathering works in the fields of drawing, graphic design, illustration or photography, this small art book fair invites a selection of publishers, often working on the outskirts of the traditional book industry. To pursue these low-cost projects, the publishers often combine alternative printing techniques (like Riso printing, in particular) with the distribution of their catalogue on line. In this way, they are able to work in complete self-sufficiency, and consider the book as a work of art in itself. Ink could therefore be seen as a group show exhibiting as many artworks as there were books displayed in the space.
“Love Letters”, a project organized by the “Printemps de l’Art Contemporain”, put the spotlight on Scotland, with an art tour including a dozen of exhibitions throughout Marseille. On this occasion, two publishers and a graphic designer from Glasgow were invited to the Studio: Good Press, O Panda Gordo and Al White.
The books of Palefroi (Berlin), Look Back and Laugh (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and Issue Press (Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA) were also part of Ink#3.
