Laterna magica’s 2006 edition once again offered to spend the month of December in singular company. We dedicated a retrospective exhibition to Gianluigi Toccafondo, our guest of honor, as well as a retrospective of his animated films. The other exhibitions showcased the work of Hélène Riff, and a group exhibition on the use of letters brought together Glen Baxter, Frédérique Bertrand, Olivier Douzou, Ed Fella, Jochen Gerner and José Parrondo.
Echoing Gianluigi Toccafondo’s work, we showed more than 40 films addressing a particular look to animation: Youri Norstein, Caroline Leaf, the Quay brothers, Charley Bowers, and an unpublished storytelling film with Lotte Reineger’s Les Aventures du Prince Achmed.
And finally, the very first session of “Les Petites formes”, an animated short films programme by artists, graphic designers and illustrators, including films by Hélène Riff, Frédérique Bertrand and Beatrice Alemagna.
