Some with pure colors, others full of interlacing lines, Mari Kanstad Johnsen’s pictures inhabit numerous Norwegian children’s books, newspapers and magazines. You don’t need to understand the language to be moved: the meanders of her stroke, the humour in the shapes, the intense colors, the characters, soft as marshmallows… In her drawings, everything contributes to shaping a visual dance that is a story in itself.
Alongside her work for the press and picture books, she develops a more personal and wild streak of creativity, interweaving her inner landscapes on countless notebooks and different medias, in an explosion of inventiveness–all of which were exhibited at the Studio Fotokino. And to celebrate her first solo show in France, we published Inner Planets, a collection of the artist’s more personal drawings.
