Détails de l'évènement
In his Marseilles studio, there are pigments, washing machines, color jars where textile sections, rusty steel bars, and hanging canvases, are waiting to be assembled to others, after cutting and sewing. Thought and composed like paintings, sometimes monumental, they are then hung in spaces where they interact with their environment. In the middle of nature where they are impregnated by the elements and the weather; in interiors where these canvases and their arrangement respond to the architectural design of the place. For the Studio Fotokino, Adrien Vescovi recomposes pieces created last year. On the wall, they are frescoes in ochre and muted colors. On the floor, they form a playground to walk through (in socks), a landscape of colors that he invites us to wander like giants.
This installation is accompanied by a new 16-page publication with dust jacket that reproduces, in fragments on the one hand, and in totality on the other, one of the works presented: Land VIII (2019, cotton, mineral dye, 485 x 152 cm). More details and information on our online sales platform Big Cartel.
Adrien Vescovi has been living and working in Marseille since 2017, after a long period spent in the mountains of the Haute-Savoie region. Through his paint work, influenced by architecture and nature, Vescovi interrogates the notion of the “free canvas,” placing this in dialogue with more contemporary issues. The context in which the artist installs his work is one of his main subjects of study. It’s through this context that Adrien creates his own temporalities, bringing together colours that have been created by the air (sun rays, moonlight, snow, pollution), the earth (plants and ochre) and fire (cooking and firing). He has made chance his friend and his idiosyncratic sewing is in itself a kind of painting.
Born in 1981 and a graduate of the École supérieure d’art de l’agglomération d’Annecy, his work has been shown across the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Mexico. In 2017, he had a residency at the Cyclops in Milly-en-Forêt where he later exhibited his work. In 2019, his work was shown at the Galerie des Ponchettes in Nice in collaboration with MAMAC, at the Villa Noailles for its International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Fashion Accessories, as well as at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris for the exhibition “Futur, ancien, fugitif” (Future, Former, Fugitive), as well as at the Vieille Charité in Marseille and at the Musée Régional d'Art Contemporain Occitanie in Sérignan. His work appears most notably in the collections of the Centre National des Arts Plastiques, the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain de Nice, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nantes, Frac Provence Alpes Côtes d’Azur and in the Fond Communal d’Art Contemporain of the city of Marseille. Adrien Vescovi is currently artist-in-residence at the ateliers de la ville de Marseille until the end of 2020.
